SRH Vs RCB IPL 2021 Match 6 Review: Hyderabad Channel Their Inner Kolkata

SRH Vs RCB – IPL 2021 Match #6 Quick Review! Surely, not two days in a row? Chennai pitch, runs on the board, and choke the chase.

Match Details, Scorecard, & Video Highlights

Scorecard: SRH Vs RCB Video Highlights

Toss: SRH won the toss and chose to field first.

Venue: MA Chidambaram, Chepauk, Chennai

Umpires: Nitin Menon & Ulhas Gandhe

What Actually Happened:

  • Winner: RCB won by 6 runs
  • Scores: RCB 149/8 Vs SRH 143/9
  • Player of the Match: Glenn Maxwell
  • Best Figures
    • Jason Holder – 3/30
    • Shahbaz Ahmed – 3/7
  • Most Runs
    • Glenn Maxwell – 59 (41)
    • David Warner – 54 (37)

Moments of The Day: Maxwell, Catches The Highlight

The IPL is full of surprises and memorable moments. Here are my moments of today:

  • Glenn Maxwell was the difference between the two sides. After a poor IPL 2020 (and no sixes) he has come up with 39 (28) with 2 sixes and 59 (41) with 3 sixes on slow tracks. The reverse paddle to yorker-master Natarajan was my moment of the match.
  • Scores of catches have been dropped over the past week, but Rashid Khan, Vijay Shankar, & Manish Pandey came up with running/diving catches for SRH, and the over that turned the game—Harshal Patel, AB de Villiers running catch, & Shahbaz himself caught skiers.
  • Rashid Khan is an absolute gun T20 player. 4-0-18-2 and 17 (9) giving SRH some hope at the end.

Honorable Mentions: Warner’s 54, Holder’s dismissal of struggling Kohli

T20 World Cup Spotlight: Shahbaz Ahmed, Harshal Patel Add To India’s Depth

Given that the T20I World Cup is around the corner, and pandemic induced rules has changed the rules to 23-player squad, we will be analyzing the impact of each match on the T20I World Cup squad.

  • Shahbaz Ahmed & Harshal Patel – In all reality, they may never wear an Indian cap given the tough competition, but these two have been brilliant first class cricketers who are finally getting their dues in the IPL. Shahbaz is the Ben Stokes of Bengal Cricket, while Harshal has been consistent over the last 5 years. Shahbaz’s 2-0-7-3 & Harshal’s economical overs to Manish Pandey (with slower off-cutters/nailed yorkers) sealed the game for RCB.

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day: Manish Pandey

  • Manish Pandey has probably been mismanaged by the Indian cricket team, but has been given ample of opportunities by SRH. He has now two consecutive innings – 61*(44) & 38 (39) – that could be considered ‘losing’ knocks. Dot balls & strike rate of 97.43 are not going to win you games.

As Simon Doull quoted Cricbuzz’s statistician, “In the last 4 seasons, Manish Pandey has faced 30+ 14 times in the last 4 seasons. Sunrisers has lost 11 of them.” That is the story of his IPL career.

KKR Vs MI IPL 2021 Match 5 Review: Kolkata Seniors Throw It Away

KKR Vs MI– IPL 2021 Match #5 Quick Review! The Mumbai Indians sure know how to win games & Kolkata Knight Riders sure know how to lose them. As a KKR fan, the ending was hard to watch. Great heist from MI nevertheless.

Match Details, Scorecard, & Video Highlights

Scorecard: KKR Vs MI Video Highlights

Toss: KKR won the toss and chose to field first.

Venue: MA Chidambaram, Chepauk, Chennai

Umpires: Chettithody Shamshuddin & Chris Gaffaney

What Actually Happened: Collapse of Epic Proportions

  • Winner: MI won by 10 runs
  • Scores: MI 152/10 Vs KKR 142/7
  • Player of the Match: Rahul Chahar
  • Best Figures
    • Andre Russell – 5/15
    • Rahul Chahar – 4/27
  • Most Runs
    • Suryakumar Yadav 56 (36)
    • Nitish Rana 57 (47)

Moments of The Day: Rahul Chahar Turns The Game

The IPL is full of surprises and memorable moments. Here are my moments of today:

  • Andre Russell, the bowler had a dream of a game. Barely able to lift himself with all the injuries & muscle, he came up with figures of 5-15 in 2 overs. Cleaned up the tail pretty nicely.
  • Rahul Chahar turns the game, literally. Chahar was the catalyst of the collapse that turned 72-0 in 8.4 overs to 142/7 in 20. Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Eoin Morgan, & most importantly, the well set Nitish Rana. The ball that dismissed Tripathi was the ball of the tournament so far. Rana unnecessarily danced down the pitch (to Chahar’s last ball by the way) & Shakib threw it away back-to-back sent panic into the KKR dressing room. DK-Russell lost their natural games trying to preserve their wickets, and in the process, gifted MI the game.

Honorable Mentions: Bumrah’s 19th shows his class; Russell’s 2 dropped catches a blessing in disguise

T20 World Cup Watch: Suryakumar, Krunal Strengthen Their Cases

Given that the T20I World Cup is around the corner, and pandemic induced rules has changed the rules to 23-player squad, we will be analyzing the impact of each match on the T20I World Cup squad.

  • In a pitch where nobody got going, Suryakumar Yadav batted beautifully – 56 (36) with 2 sixes. SKY is going from strength to strength after the India debut. He has a foot inside that World Cup squad.
  • The difference between the two sides was Krunal Pandya. From 126/7 in 17.3 overs, Krunal’s 15 (9) in 3 overs took MI to a respectable 152. When KKR were in a comfortable position, a miserly spell of 4-0-13-1 stalled KKR’s chase. He has been in-and-out of the T20I side, and this performance will just push him up the ladder.

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day: KKR Fans

  • The senior KKR batsman fail to live up to the hype. The strength of KKR was supposed to be their star-studded middle order—Eoin Morgan 9 (9), Dinesh Karthik 8* (11), Russell 9 (15), & Shakib 9 (9) this season. Yet, their only victories in the last two seasons have been due to Rana-Tripathi-Gill or Varun-Lockie.
  • DK not being able to finish the game & not even hitting a boundary was quite unlike him. Morgan hit one boundary, Shakib’s only 4 was an under edge against Rohit Sharma, & Russell’s only 4 was off of a free hit. Andre Russell, the batsman, has been especially disappointing over the last two seasons. 2019 apart and his contributions from the bat are minimal, especially with the likes of Lockie Ferguson & Ben Cutting on the sidelines.

Shah Rukh Khan summed it up perfectly.

  • Also hope Rohit Sharma is okay – twisted his ankle before his first ball. Ended up completing the over, but given his injury history, definitely a concern.

PBKS Vs RR IPL 2021 Match 4 Review: Samson’s Broken Dream In Mammoth Chase

PBKS Vs RR– IPL 2021 Match #4 Quick Review! The Rajasthan Royals falls meters short of an improbable victory against the Punjab Kings.

Match Details, Scorecard, & Video Highlights

Scorecard: PBKS Vs RR Video Highlights

Toss: RR won the toss and chose to field first.

Venue: Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai

Umpires: Anil Chaudhary & Sundaram Ravi

What Actually Happened

  • Winner: RR won by 4runs
  • Scores: RR 221/6 Vs PBKS 217/7
  • Player of the Match: Sanju Samson
  • Best Figures
    • Chetan Sakariya – 3/31
    • Arshdeep Singh – 3/35
  • Most Runs
    • KL Rahul – 91 (50)
    • Sanju Samson – 119 (63)

Moments of The Day: Sakariya, Arshdeep Win Hearts

The IPL is full of surprises and memorable moments. Here are my moments of today:

  • Chetan Sakariya & Arshdeep Singh – In a match aggregate of 438 runs, the highest wicket takers (and almost most economical) were 22-year old Arshdeep & 23-year old Sakariya. They were both smart with their variations and were given death bowling responsibilities—an area where even international level bowlers fail, they excelled. Oh and Sakariya took a blinder to dismiss Pooran while Arshdeep’s caught and bowled off Manan Vohra received much deserved praise from coach Jonty Rhodes.
  • KL Rahul Keeps On GoingProbably India’s best batsman of this generation, KL Rahul’s consistency in the IPL has been stellar. Last 3 seasons – 659, 593, & 670 runs. Today he struck it nicely with a wonderful 91, batting until the final over. Hope his that strike rate picks up from last year.

Honorable Mentions: Chris Gayle’s 40, Buttler’s counterattack

T20 World Cup Watch: India’s Power Hitters

Given that the T20I World Cup is around the corner, and pandemic induced rules has changed the rules to 23-player squad, we will be analyzing the impact of each match on the T20I World Cup squad.

  • Despite India having Hardik Pandya, India are missing power hitters down the order. Krunal Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, & Dinesh Karthik might be smart, impactful finishers, but out-and-out hitters are missing. Think Yusuf Pathan or Andre Russell type players. Yesterday Abdul Samad impressed hitting 2 sixes against Pat Cummins, and today Deepak Hooda 64 (28) – 6 sixes & Riyan Parag 25 (11) – 3 sixes thrilled with their clean striking.

Wildcard entry for one of them?

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day: Samson So Close Yet So Far

  • Sanju Samson was the highlight of the day, even in a losing cause. After Stokes was dismissed for a duck and 2 down pretty, not many would have given RR a chase, but Buttler, Parag, Dube, & Samson took the game really slow. 5 needed off 2, Samson took responsibility on his own shoulder. Should he have run or not? What do you say? But as it turned out, Samson swatted away the last ball and what initially looked like a last-ball six turned out to be meters short. Broken Cricket Dream of the Day. Well played, lad.
  • Catches Lose Matches….or at least that is what the last 4 days (and IPL 2020) have showed us. Today, it was even worse. Stokes, Tewatia, Buttler dropped catches from the Royals, while Murugan Ashwin, KL Rahul, & Mayank Agarwal took turns for the Kings. Take out the dropped catches, and this is no longer a high scoring game.

I am not saying all fielding standards are bad, but it seems to be all or nothing these days. Blinders from Sakariya, Arshdeep, and Tewatia, and comical drops all around. Even Shami’s caught & bowled had miscommunication written all over it.

What Actually Happened

  • Winner: KKR won by 10 runs

    • Rashid Khan 2-24
    • Prasidh Krishna 2-35
  • Most Runs
    • Nitish Rana 80 (56)
    • Manish Pandey 61*(44)

Moments of The Day

The IPL is full of surprises and memorable moments. Here are my moments of today:

Surprises

  • KKR’s Top Order was the surprise of the day. With DK-Morgan-Russell-Shakib-Cummins (even Harbhajan the hitter), the question was if the top order could get going.
    • Rana-Gill 53 (42) & 93 (50) Tripathi-Rana set the platform for KKR
    • Nitish Rana (80) and Tripathi (53) have become cult heroes in the IPL. Always produce a couple of match winning innings each IPL. Can they get consistency this time around?
  • Dinesh Karthik is still India’s best finisher. From 157-2, Kolkata collapsed to 160-5 in 17.4. The much acclaimed Russell & Morgan out for 5 and 2 respectively. Dinesh Karthik moved around the crease to produce a 22* (9), taking KKR to 187. Time for a T20I recall. Oh and ABDUL SAMAD – India’s best power hitter? 19*(8) with 2 sixes.
  • Jonny Bairstow a class apart. 10-2 in 2 overs in a chase of 188? No worries, Bairstow will play his natural game. 55 (40) with 5 fours & 3 sixes. One of the cleanest strikers of the ball. He is my orange cap prediction for IPL 2021.

Honorable Mentions: Afghan duo Rashid-Nabi put the breaks on KKR with figures of 8-0-56-4; Manish Pandey’s steady 61*; Shakib takes wicket against his former team first ball; Prasidh Krishna impresses again

Broken Cricket Dreams of the Day

  • Harbhajan Singh coming back after 699 days, last playing in May 2019. In a slow Chennai pitch and history of Warner’s poor record against Harbhajan, he was given the first over. First ball – slow, spin, guile – Warner edges it in the air. Dropped by Pat Cummins. Broken Dream. Did not bowl for the rest of the match.
  • Mohammad Nabi gives a scare: Got hit at the back of his neck by Prasidh Krishna in the 16th over. 140 kph & Nab without neck protection guard. Really scary stuff. Came back with a strong 4 and then out. Hope he is okay in the long run.

CSK Vs DC IPL Match 2 Review: Raina’s Return Eclipsed by Dhawan-Shaw Onslaught

CSK Vs DC– IPL 2021 Match #2 Quick Review!

Match Details

Scorecard: Match 2: CSK Vs DC Video Highlights

Venue: Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai

Toss: DC won the Toss and chose to field first

Umpires: Anil Chaudhary & Virender Sharma

What Actually Happened

  • Winner: Delhi Capitals Won by 7 Wickets
  • Scores: CSK: 188/7 Vs DC: 190/3 (18.4 overs)
  • Player of the Match: Shikhar Dhawan
  • Best Figures
    • Chris Woakes – 2/18
    • Shardul Thakur – 2/53
  • Most Runs
    • Suresh Raina – 54 (36)
    • Shikhar Dhawan – 85 (54)

Moments of The Day

The IPL is full of surprises and memorable moments. Here are my moments of today:

Surprises

  • The return of Suresh Raina: Several questions about his commitment over the past year, but he came back in style. The hoicks & cuts are back. 4 sixes. With Moeen Ali, it was exactly the impetus CSK were missing last year in the middle overs.
  • Dhawan-Shaw Make a Mark: Dhawan 85, Shaw 72, 138 opening partnership. With the declaration that Kohli-Sharma will open in the World T20I world cup and KL Rahul & Ishan Kishan as reserves, Shikhar Dhawan & Prithvi Shaw seem to be out of the reckoning. With a 23-man squad possible now, commanding performances like today will help their cases. Just toyed with the field!
  • The Battle of the Currans: In the penultimate over of the 1st innings, Tom Curran came to bowl in the death to Sam Curran. 2 fours, 2 sixes, and 23 runs later, the younger brother wins the battle.

Honorable Mentions: Free-flowing Moeen Ali, impressive Avesh Khan, 3 catches for Gabbar!

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day

  • MS Dhoni – #DhoniReturns was trending on twitter, but did not get much batting time as he was bowled for a duck.
  • CSK improved on the batting front with ‘intent,’ but with only specialist cutters (Bravo-Thakur-Chahar), the bowling was not threatening at all.
  • R Ashwin was the only DC player with an off day. Expensive 47 runs in 4 overs was not his best performance
  • More dropped catches….Santner, Bravo, Gaikwad the culprits this time around

RCB Vs MI – IPL 2021 Match 1 Short & Sweet Review!

Match Details: Scorecard, Video Highlights, & More!

Scorecard: Match 1: RCB Vs MI Video Highlights

Venue: MA Chidambram Stadium, Chennai

Toss: RCB won the Toss and chose to field first (Yes Virat Kohli really did win a toss)

Umpires: KN Ananthapadmanabhan & Nitin Menon

My Pre-Match Prediction

What Actually Happened

  • Winner: RCB won by 2 wickets
  • Player of the Match: Harshal Patel (5/27 & 4*)
  • Best Figures
    • Harshal Patel (RCB) – 5/27
    • Jasprit Bumrah (MI) – 4/26
  • Most Runs
    • Chris Lynn – 49 (35)
    • AB De Villiers – 48 (27)

Moments of The Day

The IPL is full of surprises and memorable moments. Here are my moments of today:

Surprises

  • Washington Sundar opens….the BATTING: In a slow Chennai pitch, it was surprising to see Sundar & Maxwell bowling a combined total of 1 over (and Sundar taking a wicket). On the other hand, he came out to bat with Virat Kohli in absence of Devdutt Padikkal.
  • Harshal Patel Announces His Arrival: A major Indian first class player in recent times, he has never really lived up to his potential. Traded two years ago to the Delhi Capitals from RCB, he repaid their faith in style. After conceding 15 in his first over, came back with slower deliveries, yorkers, bowleds to get a 5-fer & almost a hat-trick. Hope it is a sign for big things to come. Also the first player to take a 5-fer against the Mumbai Indians in ALL 14 seasons.
  • AB De Villiers Is Still The Best In 2021: Last played in IPL 2020’s eliminator, he was timing it beautifully where most struggled!

Honorable Mentions: RCB’s collapse, Maxwell’s fluency, LynnSanity, & decent tall debuts by Marco Jansen & Kyle Jamieson were the other major moments today.

Rahul Dravid Breaks The Internet

But the best moment of all…actually happened right before the game. Rahul Dravid at his hilarious best—check this video out!

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day

  • Virat Kohli: Dropped the catch and almost injured his eye. The bruise was evident for the rest of the game. Hope it is okay
  • #BrokenCricketBats: Krunal Pandya actually broke his bat defending Jamieson’s delivery!
  • The Dropped Catches: The standard of catching in the IPL is depreciating by the year. Brilliant boundary saves & run-outs at one end and dropping dollies on the other. Mohammad Siraj, Virat Kohli, & Rohit Sharma the culprits today.Net

The Moments

West Indies

1. A Tale of Three Captains: Holder, Pollard, Brathwaite

After West Indies’ remarkable victory against Bangladesh, stand-in Kraigg Brathwaite was made the permanent captain, replacing Jason Holder. Any claims of clash of egos, however, was much unfounded. Each of them contributed with the bat and Holder was even vocal on the field. Here is how they performed:

  • Pollard: 38 (11) w/ 6 sixes in 1st T20I, 53* (42) in 3rd ODI
  • Brathwaite: In Bangladesh, he scored 76 & 20 and 47 & 6. Stable but no daddy hundreds. This time, he made amends with 126 (311) & 85 (196). His 813 minutes marathon effort broke the all-time West Indies record, surpassing the likes of Darren Bravo, Brian Lara, Desmond Haynes, & Gordon Greenidge.
  • Holder: He might not be the captain of the West Indies, but showed that he is still the #1 Test All-Rounder in the world. With 5/72 & 5th day match-saving contributions of 18* and 71* in the two Tests, his calm influence was evident. In the T20Is, scores of 29* and 14* might not look like much, but defending Hasaranga in the 18th over, so Fabian Allen could finish it off with 3 sixes was one of my moments of the series.

2. The Return of Hope to West Indies Cricket

110, 84, & 64—Hope is back. With 10 centuries, 19 50s, & 53.74 average, he is one of best ODI batsman in recent times along with Babar Azam & Virat Kohli. With John Campbell struggling for runs, expect a Test recall.

When Hope does not score a ton, Evin Lewis will. Returned with 65 & 103. When neither of them scored a hundred, Darren Bravo came back with a ton.

Their strike rates were in question, but healthy top order partnerships is the positive for the Windies.

3. Nkrumah Bonner-Kyle Mayers Partnership No Fluke

At the age of 32, Bonner has toiled hard enough in first class cricket. Bonner narrowly missed his ton in Bangladesh with 86 & 90 in Bangladesh, but his dream came true with a 113* in the first test.

A couple of 50s for Kyle Mayers & handy partnerships with Joshua de Silva shows that the Bangladesh tour was no fluke.

4. A Word on Rakheem Cornwall

Time to appreciate Rakheem Cornwall. Bowled his heart out in the spinning pitches of Bangladesh, and without his counter-attacking knocks of 61 & 73, West Indians might have lost 0-2 against Sri Lanka at home. Let Rakheem be Rakheem.

Sri Lanka

1. Suranga Lakmal Bowls His Heart Out Yet Again

Suranga Lakmal could have easily slotted in one of the great Sri Lankan teams of the past. Unfortunately, after Herath’s retirement, he has to single handedly carry the Sri Lankan bowling on his shoulders. Highest wicket-taker across both sides and bowling 92 overs as a fast bowler in 2 tests—Commendable effort.

2. Hasaranga & Nissanka the Find For Sri Lanka

While Embuldeniya & Axar Patel bamboozled the English sides, the West Indies struggled against Hasaranga. If Sri Lanka are to progress further, watch out for the Embuldeniya-Hasaranga-Dhananjaya partnership.

Test century (103) on debut—Pathum Nissanka —take a bow! Followed it up with a 50 in the next innings. With Oshada Fernando also in good touch, finally good signs for Sri Lanka.

Talent ✔. Next goal — consistency.

3. Thirimanne Delivers A Decade Later

Thirimanne averages 25.87 now after a decade and 40 Tests to his name. Finally some consistency in the last four Tests with 2 centuries, 3 fifties (on this tour), a 43 & a 39.

Sri Lanka might have found a stable line up in Karunaratne, Thirimanne, Nissanka, Fernando, Mathews, and Dickwella. Speaking of Dickwella, so close yet so far. Scored his highest score of 92 (after 43 Tests). Brilliant character.

Where Do They Go From Here?

Great Test cricket in recent times, and the West Indies Vs Sri Lanka series lived up to the billing—first 0-0 draw in the last 5 years. Sri Lanka follow this with two Test matches against Bangladesh in April at home(to complete matches from the pandemic).

With neither side qualifying for the WTC final, the next major tournament is the T20I World Cup. Gayle, Hetmyer, Pooran, Pollard, Bravo & Russell have reached for the IPL, while Sri Lanka has zero players in the IPL (once Sangakkara-Jayawardene used to captain IPL teams). In June, Sri Lanka will travel to England for 3 T20Is & 3 ODIs to prepare for the World Cup.

Finally, in Jan-Feb of 2022, England tour West Indies for 5 T20Is & 3 Tests, returning their generous favor of restarting cricket last summer.

IPL 2021: 5 Things to Watch Out For

IPL 2021—ladies & gentlemen, the festival is back in town!

IPL 2020 provided us several moments to cherish amidst the global pandemic—Rahul Tewatia’s bizarre heist, Nicholas Pooran’s superman fielding effort, double Super Overs, and the Mumbai Indians stamping their authority once again.

Who will be the surprise package this year? The emerging player? Here are 5 things I am looking forward to the most in IPL 2021.

Also Read: Top 10 Lessons from IPL 2021, Dream Teams IPL 2020

1. Shine Like a Diamond

From the young Ravindra Jadeja in 2008 & Manish Pandey in 2009 to the inspirational stories of Natarajan & Chakravarthy last year, the IPL has a habit of thrusting new faces into limelight. In 2020, uncapped players like Ravi Bishnoi, Abdul Samad, and Devdutt Padikkal had breakout seasons. Here are some of exciting candidates for 2021:

  1. Finn Allen signed as a replacement for Josh Philippe and announced himself to the international stage with a whirlwind 71(29) against Bangladesh. Will he get a match though in the star-studded RCB line-up?
  2. Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy graduates Mohammad Azharuddeen (WK/batsman), Shahrukh Khan (finisher), and R Sai Kishore (spinner) would be quite handy if they carried their devastating forms earlier this year.
  3. Surprise Packages Paul Valthaty & Rahul Tewatia became household names after bizarre IPL seasons. Would love to watch a Chetan Sakariya, Lukman Meriwala, or someone we have not heard much about (yet) rising to the occasion.

2. Can the Discards Find Their Way Back to the Pack?

Due to COVID-19, ICC events have allowed up to 23-player squads. For India, this has provided the window for discarded players like Prithvi Shaw, Dinesh Karthik, & Sanju Samson to squeeze into the T20 World Cup squad in October later this year.

Since the World Cup is scheduled to be held in India, it is also a golden opportunity for players from other countries like Liam Livingstone, the Currans, & Dawid Malan (England), Allen & Kyle Jamieson (New Zealand), & Riley Meredith & Jhye Richardson (Australia) to impress their selectors.

Eoin Morgan has made it clear he wants England to hold both the World Cup trophies. He has even gone as far as suggesting that rivals Rajasthan Royals will open with Buttler-Stokes combination (to help England prepare for the World Cup).

3. This is it, isn’t it?

Christopher Henry Gayle is 41 and has recently stated his desire to win a third T20I World Cup and even play for 5 more years. Imran Tahir at 42 and Harbhajan Singh at 40 are still spinning oppositions.

It is unlikely any of them will play all the 14 games, but their experience will be crucial in pressure situations.

We should just sit back and enjoy because this might be the final chance we get to watch players like MS Dhoni on the field. With IPL 2022 having a large auction, this year is definitely the end of an era.

4. Can Cricket Get Any Longer? Rule Changes For IPL 2021

The limited overs series between India and England have caused direct rule changes to this IPL. Some of those T20I games took up 5 hours and Suryakumar Yadav’s soft-signal caused uproar. Last year, the double super overs went well into the next day. For IPL 2021,

  1. Teams have been accommodated 90 minutes per innings including the Strategic Time Outs. Penalties have been raised for violation.
  2. No soft-signal for catches and obstruction of field appeals.
  3. Time capped for multiple Super Overs. If time elapses, the game will be declared a tie (one point each).

5. The World Must Come Together as One

Before we can enjoy the spectacle, the real question is will we even have a complete IPL due to the pandemic?

The PSL showcased brilliant display of cricket…for two weeks before the insecurity of the bio-bubble packed up the tournament.

Mitchell Marsh, Josh Hazlewood & Philippe have already withdrawn days from the IPL, and the likes of Axar Patel & Padikkal have tested positive for coronavirus. Cases are rising in India, and several travel concerns still remain.

With mental health, bio-bubble fatigue, and financial security all at stake, only time will decide the fate of this tournament. Let’s just hope that this virus is defeated, the spirit of the IPL remains alive, and the surprises keep on coming.

How Did They Do Last Year?

3rd. Losing to the Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 2. Lots of positives from last year:

  • David Warner among the top 3 yet again & Saha, the opener, giving SRH’s campaign much needed intent
  • Kane Williamson-Jason Holder (replacement for Mitchell Marsh last year) playing crucial mature knocks
  • Youngsters like Abdul Samad, Priyam Garg, & Abhishek Sharma all shining at certain points during the tournament
  • Batting collapses the worry

Injury & COVID-19 News

Mitchell Marsh has pulled out of IPL 2021. Poor guy. Seems to be more out more often than not. Jason Roy is the replacement.

Complete Sunrisers Hyderabad Squad

Batsman: Manish Pandey, Priyam Garg, Kedar Jadhav, Virat Singh

WK: Shreevats Goswami, Wriddhiman Saha

All-Rounders: Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Vijay Shankar, Jagadeesha Suchith

Spinners: Shahbaz Nadeem

Fast Medium: T Natarajan, Khaleel Ahmed, Basil Thampi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Siddarth Kaul, Sandeep Sharma

Overseas: David Warner*, Jonny Bairstow, Jason Holder, Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Rashid Khan, Jason Roy, Kane Williamson

Withdrawn Mitchell Marsh

Predicted SRH XI

  1. David Warner (C), 2. Wriddhiman Saha (WK), 3. Manish Pandey, 4. Kane Williamson/Jonny Bairstow5. Vijay Shankar/Kedar Jadhav, 6. Priyam Garg/Abdul Samad, 7. Rashid Khan8. Jason Holder/Mohammad Nabi/ Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman, 9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10. T Natarajan, 11. Sandeep Sharma

Watch Out For

Horses-for-courses strategy.

  • Given their first 5 games are at Chennai (and 7 more at Delhi/Kolkata), expect SRH to deploy their spin regime. They have the Afghan trio Rashid Khan-Mohammad Nabi-Mujeeb Ur Rahman along with Shahbaz Nadeem & part-timers Abhishek Sharma/Kedar Jadhav.
  • The other option is to go top heavy with Warner-Roy-Williamson-Bairstow. Droolworthy batting order.
  • If the pitch demands pace, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Natarajan, Sandeep Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Thampi, & Kaul will be key with all-rounders in Jason Holder & Vijay Shankar readily available.

Where Can Things Go Wrong For the Sunrisers?

With multiple options, come multiple warnings. Do not give enough chances or confidence to the players and instability can creep in. With staff of VVS Laxman, Muralitharan and co, this should not be the case.

Multiple options – always a blessing or a curse.
