Final Thoughts

Usually with India’s squads, you have a feeling of how the campaign is going to go.

This time, I cannot really say. With an overkill of cricket, ODIs have been squeezed out of the ODI calendar.

Add to that, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna are just coming out of injury, Tilak Verma has not played a single ODI, and Shami hasn’t played for a while. At the same time, there is discussion about who didnt’t make the squad, Yuzvendra Chahal & one of the off-spin options.

This is still a great squad, with a mix of youth & experience. My only concern is the lack of match time, recurring injuries, and relative instability.

But with home advantage, you never know. Can India repeat the magic of 2011? Have your say in the comments below!

What is the Salary of an Indian Premier League (IPL) player in India?

Today we will discuss the salary of an Indian Premier League (IPL) player in India.

Let’s dive into a question that’s been on everyone’s mind – just how much do these players make?

Trust me, you’re in for some jaw-dropping revelations!

IPL Salary – By the Numbers

  • The average salary of an Indian Premier League (IPL) player is $459,743 per season (average of 24 players in each squad with average spending of $11,079,800 per team). In total, $110,798,000 have been spent for 241 players, divided among 10 teams.

  • Punjab Kings spent the most on overseas players at $831,429 per player, while Chennai Super Kings (CSK) paid their overseas players the least, still at $449,750. • Compared to other leagues, IPL ranks at #1 in the richest cricket leagues (according to average salaries).

India Vs Namibia – T20 World Cup 2021 Match #42 Quick Review!

India Vs Namibia Quick Review – India deliver victory on Ravi Shastri-Bharat Arun-Sridhar-Captain Kohli era.

Final game of the Super 12s in the T20 World Cup.

Match Details, Scorecard, & Video Highlights

Scorecard: India Vs Scotland Video Highlights

Toss: India won the toss and chose to field first.

Venue: Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, UAE

Umpires: Chris Brown & Richard Illingworth

What Actually Happened

  • Winner: India won by 9 wickets
  • Scores: Namibia 132/8 India 136/1
  • Player of the Match: Ravindra Jadeja 3/16
  • Best Figures
    • Ravindra Jadeja (4-0-16-3), Ravichandran Ashwin (4-0-20-3)
    • Jan Frylinck (2-0-19-2)
  • Most Runs
    • David Wiese 26 (25)
    • Rohit Sharma 56 (37), KL Rahul 54* (36)

Moments of The Day: Same Story, Different Opposition

This match was similar to the India-Scotland match. Spinners choked the Associate nation, while Rohit-Rahul finished the rest.

  • Stephan Baard & Michael van Lingen started positively, scoring 33 in just 4.3 overs. However Bumrah and Jadeja soon reduced Namibia to 39/3. Jadeja was good, but the pick of the bowlers was Ashwin for me – The bowled off Green and couple of edges to slips were proper Test match off spin.
  • Wiese’s 26, along with Frylinck & Trumpelmann’s finishing helped Namibia to a competitive total. Altogether, David Wiese ended up as the fourth highest run-scorer at the end of the Super 12s with 227 runs, best of 66*, average of 45.40 & 127.50 SR. Not bad for someone representing Namibia for the first time.
  • Since the Afghanistan game, 4 players have had standout performances for Team India:
    • Jadeja: 1/19, 3/16, 3/15
    • Ashwin: 2/14, 1/29, 3/20
    • Sharma: 74, 30, 56
    • Rahul: 69, 50, 54*
  • While Rahul & Sharma almost killed the chase with a beautiful highlight package, Suryakumar Yadav was promoted ahead of Virat Kohli. A classic 25* (19) followed including an inside out shot and a pull. When asked later about the move, Kohli responded with, “Surya didn’t get much game time,…, and it’s a nice [World Cup] memory of him to take back.

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day: The Ravi Shastri Era Ends

  • Even though India did not win an ICC trophy during his tenure, India made large strides, especially in Test cricket. R Sridhar improved fielding standards all around and Bharat Arun is credited for the rise of India’s fast bowling attack around the globe. Ravi Shastri instilled the confidence which was evident in the home/away England series & the 2 series victories overseas against Australia, especially Gabba 2021 (rising from 36 All Out). An almost 2.0 W/L ratio across formats is unprecedented for an Indian coach.
  • He also mentioned that not having enough rest between the IPL and the World T20 attributed to not being switched on during crunch situations and pressure matches early on.
  • In any case, I will leave you with his own quote from today, “Sometimes in life, it’s not about all you accomplish, it’s about what you overcome.” Beautiful.

Have a great journey ahead coach! Whether that is coaching in the IPL or back to the commentary! Would also love to see a more free Virat Kohli.

PBKS Vs RCB- IPL 2021 Match 26 Review: Harpreet Brar’s Day Out Shuts Out RCB

PBKS Vs RCB – IPL 2021 Match #26 Quick Review! KL Rahul & Chris Gayle set the tone for PBKS, and Harpreet Brar did the rest.

Match Details, Scorecard, & Video Highlights

Scorecard: PBKS Vs RCB Video Highlights

Toss: SRH won the toss and chose to field first.

Venue: Narendra Modi Stadium, Motera, Ahmedabad

Umpires: Sundaram Ravi & Virender Sharma

What Actually Happened

  • Winner: Chennai Super Kings won by 7 wickets.
  • Scores: PBKS 179-5 Vs RCB 145-8
  • Player of the Match: Harpreet Brar
  • Best Figures
    • Kyle Jamieson – 2/32
    • Harpreet Brar – 3/19
  • Most Runs
    • KL Rahul – 91* (57)
    • Virat Kohli – 35 (34)

Moments of The Day: What can Harpreet Brar not do?

Here are my moments of today:

  • KL Rahul is the poster-child of Bangalore. At PBKS, he has Mayank Agarwal, his best friend, as his opening partner. Add coach Anil Kumble & ex-RCB Chris Gayle to that list. He debuted for RCB in 2013 before moving to Punjab in 2018. Last year, he scored 132* against RCB and 91* today. An array of shots today, with a few scoops at the end as well. He has not been dismissed by them in the last couple of years. Basically, he loves RCB & Bangalore, whether that is for them or against them.
  • Chris Gayle produced his second match-winning knock of the season. Five fours in an over against Kyle Jamieson raised the momentum, which put Punjab’s run-rate in second gear. Ended with 46 (24) with 2 sixes.
  • Harpreet Brar was the star of the show. After Gayle’s storm, a mini-collapse took place. 118-5 in 14.4 overs. Harpreet Brar rebuilt and provided KL Rahul with much-needed support on the other end. At the end, he took finishing in his own hands with a quickfire 25* (17) with 2 sixes. The last ball six sent the dugout with the momentum they needed to inflict the damage with the ball.
  • Harpreet Brar, the bowler—Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, AB De Villiers. Bowled, bowled, caught. Double-wicket maiden. And a catch as well. Combined figures of Brar & Bishnoi: 8-1-36-3. Wow. Just Wow.

Honorable Mention: Ravi Bishnoi takes another blinder; Prabhsimran Singh’s shows intent; Glenn’s Maxwell stunned reaction; Meredith’s bowled

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day: Rajat Patidar & Virat Kohli

  • In a 9 an over required-rate, Kohli’s 35 (34) & Patidar’s 31 (30) was not up to par. Even AB De Villiers cannot rescue the team with a partnership worth 43 (46).
  • Harshal Patel is the purple cap of the season and had taken 17 wickets in 6 games. At this rate, he would be the highest wicket-taker in a season. Until this game, the 37-run Jadeja over was the only blot to his name. Today, the death bowling was not accurate and he conceded 53 runs without taking a wicket. Made it up with 31* (13). Helped RCB’s NRR by taking them from 96-7 to 145-8 with Kyle Jamieson’s help.
  • Cannot End this without Nicholas’ ‘Poor-Run.’ He has now bagged 0 (0), 0(1), 0(2), and 0(3). Quite a collection. Nicholas Pooran & his ducks:

  • PBKS’ collective bowling performance the key to victory. The way Moises Henriques (3-0-12-0) & Deepak Hooda (3-0-12-1) began set the tone for Punjab’s disciplined bowling effort & got the 5th/6th bowler out of the way earlier. Bishnoi finally came back to the XI and delivered right away. Both Shami & Bishnoi had figures of 4-0-21-2.
  • KL Rahul & Mayank Agarwal – They delivered all throughout IPL 2020, but had been inconsistent in 2021, which lead to Punjab’s low scores of 106/8 and 120 recently. 53-run partnership today helped Punjab chase the tricky total. KL Rahul has received lots of criticism for “Strike rate is over-rated” comment, but today, slow-ish matured innings by KL & Gayle was exactly what Punjab needed. Strike rate is over-rated…in Chennai.
  • Rahul Chahar & Jayant Yadav – Mumbai took it close yet again due to the spinners. Chahar has been the best leg-spinner all IPL and was turning it square again. Figures of 4-0-19-1 (8 dot balls) & 4-0-20-0 (16 dot balls) for Chahar & Jayant respectively almost brought MI back in the game.

World T20 World Cup Spotlight: The Universe Boss Is Back

  • Chris Gayle was going through a lean phase with scores of 10, 11, & 15 with Dawid Malan looking over his shoulder. Despite a slow start today, he came back with 43* (35) with 2 sixes, in usual Gayle fashion on the 8th anniversary of his 175* against Pune Warriors. Mumbai Indians were choking oppositions at will in Chennai and run-a-ball with 3 overs to go was touch and go. Boult came in, & Gayle/Rahul finished it off with 14 balls to spare.
  • The 41-year-old Universe Boss should definitely be in the 23 men World T20 squad, shouldn’t he?

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day: Mumbai’s Batting Is Losing Its Grip

  • 159/9, 152/10, 150/5, 137/9, 131/6 – Things are going from bad to worse for the Mumbai Indians, despite winning 2 without a single convincing batting performance.
  • The form of Ishan Kishan & Quinton de Kock will be a worry, specially since Chris Lynn went back to the bench after his 49. Except one score of 40, de Kock has scored 2, 2, & 3 respectively. Kishan’s 1 (3), 12 (21) , 26 (28) do not look any better and the miserly 6 (17) was the reason Mumbai scored only 21 runs in the 6-over Powerplay today.
  • Rohit Sharma & Suryakumar Yadav have done better overall, but neither have converted to the big scores after being set. Rohit’s 63 (52) was better today since he stayed till the 18th over, with 19, 43, 32, 44 earlier. SKY, similarly, has scores of 31, 56, 10, 24, & 33.

With 4 games in the slow pitches of Delhi to follow, MI are in dire need to change strategy…or personnel.

PBKS Vs SRH IPL 2021 Match 14 Review: Hyderabad Takes Points As Punjab Fold

PBKS Vs SRH– IPL 2021 Match #14 Quick Review! SRH are finally on the points table, while PBKS continue to disappoint. Khaleel-Rashid-Warner-Bairstow help SRH to first win.

Match Details, Scorecard, & Video Highlights

Scorecard: PBKS Vs SRH Video Highlights

Toss: PBKS won the toss and chose to bat first.

Venue: MA Chidambram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai

Umpires: Krishnamachari Srinivasan & Nitin Menon

What Actually Happened

  • Winner: Sunrisers Hyderabad won by 9 wickets
  • Scores: PBKS 120/10SRH 121/1
  • Player of the Match: Jonny Bairstow
  • Best Figures
    • Khaleel Ahmed – 3/21
    • Fabian Allen – 1/22
  • Most Runs
    • Shahrukh Khan – 22 (17)
    • Jonny Bairstow – 63 (56)

Moments of The Day:

The IPL is full of surprises and memorable moments. Here are my moments of today:

  • Kane Williamson provides the balance – SRH always had the players but not the balance. Williamson’s calm 16 (19) made sure SRH cross the line. At the same spot in earlier games, Warner or Bairstow’s dismissal would cause a collapse. I like the look of this lineup—Warner-Bairstow-Williamson at the top followed by Kedar Jadhav-Vijay Shankar-Abhishek Sharma.
  • Jonny Bairstow is a star. Definitely one of the modern ODI greats, he has started IPL 2021 with scores of 55, 12, 43, and 63*. This knock would please Bairstow since he finished the game himself. A ton coming soon?
  • Khaleel Ahmed is back. In 2018-19, Khaleel was India’s pace spearhead. By late 2020, he had even dropped off from SRH’s pecking order. Natarajan’s injury is a concern, but the blessing in disguise is the return of Khaleel. Figures of 3/21 today.

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day: Pooran’s Poor Form Persists

Run out without facing a ball has to be the worst broken dream for a batsman. Pooran was on the receiving day today.

  • Poor Pooran0(1), 0(2), 0(0) – run (out). Shall I say anymore? With 9 as his highest score and Chris Gayle not doing too hot either, it is safe to say that, Dawid Malan, world’s #1 T20I batsman, needs to be back.
  • Why bench Ravi Bishnoi, one of the breakout stars of IPL 2020? Punjab Kings did well to take the game to the 19th over, but the bowling lineup does not aspire too much confidence. Why not play both Murugan Ashwin & Ravi Bishnoi?

PBKS Vs DC IPL 2021 Match 11 Review: Shikhar Dhawan Outguns Agarwal-Rahul

PBKS Vs DC– IPL 2021 Match #11 Quick Review! Shikhar Dhawan back into contention with another fluent knock.

Match Details, Scorecard, & Video Highlights

Scorecard: PBKS Vs DC Video Highlights

Toss: DC won the toss and chose to field first.

Venue: Wankhede, Mumbai

Umpires: Anil Chaudhary & Paul Reiffel

What Actually Happened

  • Winner: Delhi Capitals won by 6 wickets
  • Scores: PBKS 195/4DC 198/4
  • Player of the Match: Shikhar Dhawan
  • Best Figures
    • Lukman Meriwala – 1/32
    • Jhye Richardson – 2/41
  • Most Runs
    • Mayank Agarwal – 69 (36)
    • Shikhar Dhawan – 92 (49)

Moments of The Day:

The IPL is full of surprises and memorable moments. Here are my moments of today:

  • Mayank impresses 69 (36), KL Rahul 61 (51) does not. In a 122 run partnership, Agarwal dominated. At one point, Agarwal – 66 (30) & KL Rahul 34 (30). In a high-scoring match at the Wankhede, the slow strike rate was the difference.
  • Deepak Hooda, Shahrukh Khan key to this Punjab lower order. After brief collapse to 179-4 in 18.5 overs, Hooda – 22* (13) & Shahrukh – 15* (6) carried PBKS to 195. They both have played 2 innings of note now. Gayle & Pooran’s form a major concern, especially with the likes of Dawid Malan & Moises Henriques on the sidelines.

Honorable Mentions: Prithvi Shaw’s blazing 32; Lukman Meriwala & Jalaj Saxena, domestic stars, get an IPL game; Steven Smith 9 (12) in comeback game.

T20 World Cup Spotlight: Has Dhawan Solidified His Spot?

Shikhar Dhawan is enjoying this phase of his career. He is taking catching galore and scoring runs galore. Brilliant strike rate as well.

  • Las year KL Rahul (670 runs) edged Shikhar Dhawan (618) for the orange cap, and this battle continues in IPL 2021. Dhawan currently holds the orange cap with 186 runs, with KL at #3 with 157 runs.
  • Dhawan’s golden run continues. 92 & 85 in the last 3 IPL matches and 98 & 67 in 2 ODIs against England earlier.

With 23-member squad possible for the T20 World Cup, has Dhawan solidified his spot? KL Rahul, despite the critics, will most likely make the squad, but as of now, Dhawan will be in the XI. Mayank Agarwal could be a wildcard entry as well.

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day: PBKS’ Death Bowling

  • Another day, another unsuccessful defense by Punjab. Seasoned Mohammad Shami, Jhye Richardson, & Riley Meredith had economies of 13.25, 10.25, & 15.00 respectively. The young Arshdeep? 3-0-22-0 (7.33 economy). Chris Jordan needs to come back to this side if PBKS have any hope. Urgently.

CSK Vs PBKS IPL 2021 Match 8 Review: Chahar, Jadeja Rout Punjab

CSK Vs PBKS– IPL 2021 Match #8 Quick Review! Deepak Chahar’s magical opening spell & Ravindra Jadeja’s fielding seal the deal for CSK. Big net run-rate gain as well.

Match Details, Scorecard, & Video Highlights

Scorecard: CSK Vs PBKS Video Highlights

Toss: won the toss and chose to first.

Venue: Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai

Umpires: Anil Chaudhary & Anil Dandekar

What Actually Happened

  • Winner: Chennai Super Kings won by 6 wickets
  • Scores: PBKS 106/8CSK 107/4
  • Player of the Match: Deepak Chahar
  • Best Figures
    • Deepak Chahar – 4/13
    • Mohammad Shami – 2/21
  • Most Runs
    • Shahrukh Khan 47 (36)
    • Mooen Ali – 46 (31)

Moments of The Day: The Return of Chahar & Jadeja

The IPL is full of surprises and memorable moments. Here are my moments of today:

  • Before the pandemic, Deepak Chahar almost solidified his T20I spot, especially with Bhuvneshwar Kumar injured. Since IPL 2020, though, he has not been the same, with even Shardul Thakur overtaking him in the India XI. Today, he answered his critics with a 4-1-13-4. That out-swinging ball to Mayank Agarwal was the ball of the tournament so far.
  • Ravindra Jadeja had been MIA in the India-England series due to injury. He showed no fitness issues with a diving catch and iconic run-out to get rid of the dangerous KL Rahul. PBKS never recovered after Jadeja’s strikes.
  • Shahrukh Khan has been highly talked about after his finishing exploits in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy. Today he made full use of his golden opportunity. From 26-5 in 6.2 overs, he dragged them to a respectable score of 106. He is a proper batter, not just a hitter.

Honorable Mentions: Mohammad Shami’s spell, Faf du Plessis’ fluent 36*

T20 World Cup Spotlight: Let Us Talk About Moeen Ali

Given that the T20I World Cup is around the corner, and pandemic induced rules has changed the rules to 23-player squad, we will be analyzing the impact of each match on the various T20I World Cup squads.

  • Just like Chris Woakes yesterday, another English player has been mistreated recently—Moeen Ali. Traveling with England since the South Africa tour (and committing to all formats), he had been on the sidelines. Flights, quarantines, more flights (to Sri Lanka), positive COVID result, double quarantine, 1 Test (against India), flew home, communication misunderstandings, back to India, 3 ODIs, & finally, the IPL.
  • He is getting the run in CSK that he did not get with England. In a low-scoring match today, he came in at 24-1 in 5 overs and destroyed the chase with a quickfire 46 (31), including 7 fours & 1 six.

Who is Ali? An opener, a #3, premier all-rounder, a spinner? Well, regardless of the role he is given, Mooen Ali is a must in the squad of 23.

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day: Punjab’s Star Power Disappoints

  • With a top order of KL Rahul (5), Mayank Agarwal (0), Chris Gayle (10), & Nicholas Pooran (0), one expects at least one to come to the party every game. Pooran with consecutive ducks now (although he bettered his golden duck with a 2-ball duck this time). Batting is Punjab’s strong suit, so this result was disappointing. Hope this is only a one-off.

KKR Vs MI IPL 2021 Match 5 Review: Kolkata Seniors Throw It Away

KKR Vs MI– IPL 2021 Match #5 Quick Review! The Mumbai Indians sure know how to win games & Kolkata Knight Riders sure know how to lose them. As a KKR fan, the ending was hard to watch. Great heist from MI nevertheless.

Match Details, Scorecard, & Video Highlights

Scorecard: KKR Vs MI Video Highlights

Toss: KKR won the toss and chose to field first.

Venue: MA Chidambaram, Chepauk, Chennai

Umpires: Chettithody Shamshuddin & Chris Gaffaney

What Actually Happened: Collapse of Epic Proportions

  • Winner: MI won by 10 runs
  • Scores: MI 152/10 Vs KKR 142/7
  • Player of the Match: Rahul Chahar
  • Best Figures
    • Andre Russell – 5/15
    • Rahul Chahar – 4/27
  • Most Runs
    • Suryakumar Yadav 56 (36)
    • Nitish Rana 57 (47)

Moments of The Day: Rahul Chahar Turns The Game

The IPL is full of surprises and memorable moments. Here are my moments of today:

  • Andre Russell, the bowler had a dream of a game. Barely able to lift himself with all the injuries & muscle, he came up with figures of 5-15 in 2 overs. Cleaned up the tail pretty nicely.
  • Rahul Chahar turns the game, literally. Chahar was the catalyst of the collapse that turned 72-0 in 8.4 overs to 142/7 in 20. Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Eoin Morgan, & most importantly, the well set Nitish Rana. The ball that dismissed Tripathi was the ball of the tournament so far. Rana unnecessarily danced down the pitch (to Chahar’s last ball by the way) & Shakib threw it away back-to-back sent panic into the KKR dressing room. DK-Russell lost their natural games trying to preserve their wickets, and in the process, gifted MI the game.

Honorable Mentions: Bumrah’s 19th shows his class; Russell’s 2 dropped catches a blessing in disguise

T20 World Cup Watch: Suryakumar, Krunal Strengthen Their Cases

Given that the T20I World Cup is around the corner, and pandemic induced rules has changed the rules to 23-player squad, we will be analyzing the impact of each match on the T20I World Cup squad.

  • In a pitch where nobody got going, Suryakumar Yadav batted beautifully – 56 (36) with 2 sixes. SKY is going from strength to strength after the India debut. He has a foot inside that World Cup squad.
  • The difference between the two sides was Krunal Pandya. From 126/7 in 17.3 overs, Krunal’s 15 (9) in 3 overs took MI to a respectable 152. When KKR were in a comfortable position, a miserly spell of 4-0-13-1 stalled KKR’s chase. He has been in-and-out of the T20I side, and this performance will just push him up the ladder.

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day: KKR Fans

  • The senior KKR batsman fail to live up to the hype. The strength of KKR was supposed to be their star-studded middle order—Eoin Morgan 9 (9), Dinesh Karthik 8* (11), Russell 9 (15), & Shakib 9 (9) this season. Yet, their only victories in the last two seasons have been due to Rana-Tripathi-Gill or Varun-Lockie.
  • DK not being able to finish the game & not even hitting a boundary was quite unlike him. Morgan hit one boundary, Shakib’s only 4 was an under edge against Rohit Sharma, & Russell’s only 4 was off of a free hit. Andre Russell, the batsman, has been especially disappointing over the last two seasons. 2019 apart and his contributions from the bat are minimal, especially with the likes of Lockie Ferguson & Ben Cutting on the sidelines.

Shah Rukh Khan summed it up perfectly.

  • Also hope Rohit Sharma is okay – twisted his ankle before his first ball. Ended up completing the over, but given his injury history, definitely a concern.
