Pakistan Vs Australia Semi Final #2 – T20 World Cup 2021 Match #44 Quick Review! Matthew Wade Channels His Inner Mike Hussey As Australia Triumph

Pakistan Vs Australia Semi Final #2  Quick Review – Marcus-Matthew match winners for Australia.

Almost identical to the first semi final – 170ish score, team batting first starts slow & accelerates at the death. Bowls well in the second innings and takes out the top order before some recovery work and a cinematic finish from the chasing team.

Brilliant semi-finals these two games. Rarely do we get to see one close game. Now, we have seen two in two days.

Match Details, Scorecard, & Video Highlights

Scorecard: Pakistan Vs Australia Video Highlights

Toss: Australia won the toss and chose to field first.

Venue: Dubai International Stadium, Dubai, UAE

Umpires: Chris Gaffaney & Richard Kettleborough

What Actually Happened – Pakistan Vs Australia

  • Winner: Australia won by 5 wickets
  • Scores: Pakistan 176/4 Australia 177/5
  • Player of the Match: Matthew Wade 41* (17)
  • Best Figures
    • Mitchell Starc (4-0-38-2), Adam Zampa (4-0-22-1)
    • Shadab Khan (4-0-26-4)
  • Most Runs
    • Mohammad Rizwan 67 (52), Fakhar Zaman 55 (32)
    • David Warner 49 (30), Matthew Wade 41* (17), Marcus Stoinis 40* (31)

Moments of The Day: Rizwan, Fakhar, Shadab Shine; Warner, Stoinis, & Wade Shine Better

Pakistan’s Inning

  • Mohammad Rizwan had been hospitalized for two days. He had been in the ICU for 2 days, recovering from a “severe chest infection” but had a speedy recovery. At the beginning, Babar Azam was at his silky best, but poor Rizwan could not connect. He was struggling initially, but later Babar slowed down. After Babar got out, Rizwan 2.0 took action, ending at 67.
  • Fakhar Zaman was one of the two players in the XI who had not yet made a significant contribution thus far in Pakistan’s campaign. Today he was magnificent, especially against Mitchell Starc. To dig up yorkers with full swing bat at that speed is insane skill. He built on Rizwan’s knock and got Pakistan to a par score of 176.

Australia’s Inning

  • The first over by Shaheen Shah Afridi was the best over of the tournament. First ball, beats Warner. Then, a nervy single. 3rd ball – perfect good length delivery to LBW Aaron Finch for a golden duck. The 4th ball was my favorite – swinging toe crushing yorker with the appeal of the ages. Unfortunately it was not given out by the umpire, and it was umpire’s call on review. Mitchell Marsh got a close one a ball later. Beat his bat and close to the stumps. Pakistan ahead, crowd on fire.
  • Then came David Warner’s time, a man under pressure by his IPL team who has devoted half a decade to. Having already scored a couple of fifties, he was on song today. Despite Shaheen’s wicket up front, he made sure the pressure does not build up. A brilliant 49 with a couple of interesting moments (look at the videos below).

The Finish

  • Then came the finishers, Stoinis and Wade. Both have excelled in the BBL as openers, but Australia do not have space up top. Although Stoinis sharpened his finishing skills at the IPL, Wade was not a recognized finisher. They had come together earlier against South Africa to win a close game together, but this chase was a different beast altogether.
  • 96/5 after 12.2 overs with in-form Maxwell gone. Pakistan has one foot in the finals. Wade was nudging the singles as Stoinis took control. 13 runs in the 17th over off Haris Rauf. Stoinis 38* (27), Wade 8* (9).
  • Then Hasan Ali’s over came and Wade fired 15 including a six. Got his timing back. Now 22 off two with Shaheen in, Pakistan still marginally ahead. Third ball, Wade hits it and is dropped by Hasan Ali. Next 3 balls,
    • Scooped for 6!
    • Huge six over – Magnificent (especially with Ian Bishop’s voice in the background)
    • Another scoop! Australia win.

Why not have a look below yourself!

For comparison, here is the Michael Hussey sixes a decade earlier in a similar scenario. Pakistan Vs Australis semi-final in the 2010 T20 World Cup Semi-Final. 50 needed in the last 4 and 17 in the final over. Hussey seals it in style.

Funny Moments of the Day – Feat David Warner

Here are two of the most peculiar moments you will see in cricket – (1) A double bounced ball (that was called a no ball) and Warner hits it for six, and (2) Warner walks…with no ultraedge.

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day: Hasan Ali Feels The Heat

Hasan Ali’s dropped got some harsh words from captain Babar Azam after the game and even worse, by the social media community. Some of his family members, especially his wife, received abuse and threats due to their nationality and religious beliefs.

Cruel world we live in. Broken dream…everyone goes through tough phases. Hasan Ali is a legend. He will remain one.

In any case, Congratulations to the Pakistan cricket team and Pakistan fans for the wonderful memories! This has been an amazing tournament for Pakistan, especially after the cancellations that came earlier (from England and NZ).

Matchwinners throughout, great fielders, and youth galore. Positive future for this team. Keep the hopes up.

Pakistan Vs Scotland – T20 World Cup 2021 Match #41 Quick Review!

Pakistan Vs Scotland Quick Review – Shoaib Malik rolls back the years as Berrington makes a WC Super 12 fifty.

The semi-finalists are now solidified – (1) England Vs New Zealand and (2) Pakistan Vs Australia.

Match Details, Scorecard, & Video Highlights

Scorecard: Pakistan Vs Scotland  Video Highlights

Toss: Pakistan won the toss and chose to field first.

Venue: Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah, UAE

Umpires: Rod Tucker & Paul Wilson

What Actually Happened

  • Winner: New Zealand won by 72 runs
  • Scores: Pakistan 189/4 Scotland 117/6
  • Player of the Match: Shoaib Malik 54* (18)
  • Best Figures
    • Hamza Tahir (4-0-24-1)
    • Shadab Khan (4-0-14-2)
  • Most Runs
    • Babar Azam 66 (47)
    • Richie Berrington 54* (37)

Moments of The Day: Babar-Malik-Shadab Demolish Scotland

  • Pakistan now have had 5 different Player of the Match awards—Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Asif Ali, Mohammad Rizwan, and now Shoaib Malik. Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam so far? 68*, 9, 51, 70, & 66. Highest run-scorer of the tournament, 4 fifties, and has not been their most important player yet. Wow.
  • Shoaib Malik has been playing international cricket for 22 years, about the age of several Pakistani players in this young side. Today, he showed the world why he is one of the best players against spin. Six sixes and one four as Pakistan scored 77 in the last 5.
  • Richie Berrington had made a 50 in the qualifying stages but an unbeaten fifty today ensured Scotland do not suffer a repeat of the Afghanistan game (Afghanistan had scored around 190 and routed Scotland for 60). Good knock.
  • Pakistan’s spinners were ultra impressive. Imad Wasim scored 4-0-17-0 and Shadab Khan with 4-0-14-2. Miserly spells. Tied down George Munsey for 17 (31). Strike rate of 54.83. The reason of this slowdown was brilliant captaincy. See the graphic below.

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day: Kyle Coetzer

  • Kyle Coetzer has been synonymous with Scotland Cricket for more than a decade now. One of the stars of the mammoth ODI victory against England.
  • Lot was expected of the captain but scores of 0, 6,41, 10, 17, 1, & 9 do not inspire much confidence. 84 runs at an average of 12, from which 41 runs came in one match. For a top order batter, that is way too low.

In any case, hope Scotland bounces better in the 2022 T20 World Cup, which they have already qualified for since they made it to the Super 1ws this time.

  • Ravindra Jadeja in the middle broke the back of the Scottish batting. Bowled straight and quick and choked the batting. LBW, B, LWB. Classic Jadeja.
  • The rest was done by India’s opening pair. In order to get ahead of Afghanistan & NZ’s NRR, India needed to chase 89 runs within 43 ball (7.1 overs). As it turns out, India finished it in 39 balls (6.3 overs), thanks to KL Rahul’s 18-ball 50.

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day: Scotland Keep On Drowning

  • After winning 3 in 3 in the qualifying stage, Scotland has looked a class below in the Super 12s. Now the fourth loss in a row, they will want to finish on a high…Except heir last game is against group toppers Pakistan.

New Zealand Vs Scotland – T20 World Cup 2021 Match #32 Quick Review!

New Zealand Vs Scotland Quick Review – New Zealand still in the running for a semi-finalists spot as Scotland compete till the very end.

Match Details, Scorecard, & Video Highlights

Scorecard: New Zealand Vs Scotland  Video Highlights

Toss: Scotland won the toss and chose to field first.

Venue: Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, UAE

Umpires: Marais Erasmus & Ahsan Raza

What Actually Happened

  • Winner: New Zealand won by 16 runs
  • Scores: New Zealand 172/5 Scotland 156/6
  • Player of the Match: Martin Guptill 93 (56)
  • Best Figures
    • Safyaan Sharif (4-0-28-2), Mark Watt (4-0-13-1)
    • Trent Boult (4-0-29-2)
  • Most Runs
    • Martin Guptill 93 (56)
    • Michael Leask 42* (20)

Moments of The Day: Martin Guptill The Difference Between The Two Sides

  • Sharif’s over put Scotland in the front. First was an LBW to dismiss Mitchell. Then was a brilliant captaincy ploy that you will not see in the highlights. Scotland placed a fielder over short third man. First ball, Williamson hit the ball right to the fielder with his release shot – dab to third man. Four dots later, Sharif bowled down the leg side, and Williamson edged it to the keeper.
  • Martin Guptill finally played the innings we were waiting for. At the end of the 10th over, NZ were tied down by Mark Watt & Chris Greaves at 70/3. Phillips was struggling at 6 (12). After the break, Leask was introduced and Phillips broke lose. 102 runs came in the last 10. Scotland was right in the battle till the end. Munsey especially was looking good with his two sixes before getting out on a full toss. Every batter scored crucial runs and Michael Leask’s 42* (20) got Scotland very close to the target.

New Zealand escaped, barely.

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day: The Heat

  • In the afternoon game, the UAE heat was evident and affected several players. Guptill, who had batted most of the first innings, was physically strained and holed out for 93. He did not field for a few overs either.

Keeper Commentary of the Day: Cross

Matthew Cross has been pretty vocal behind the stumps in this tournament, but he took it to the next level when Glenn Phillips was batting. With India & NZ competing for that elusive 2nd qualifying spot, Cross remarked to Chris Greaves, “Come on Greavo, whole of India is behind you.” Here is the video.

Moments of The Day: Namibia’s Lower Middle Order Key to Their Success

  • Trumpelmann’s 3 in the first over put the game in Namibia’s first up. Bowled, caught behind, LBW. Brilliant.
  • After 5/57, Scotland marshalled a recovery via Michael Leask & Chris Greaves, which took them to a respectable 109/8. Leask backed his batting with 2/12.
  • Let us talk about Mark Watt, Scotland’s left-arm spinner. The spinners pegged Namibia back and positive attacking fields brought Scotland back in this game. Watt was the highlight of the bowlers Has anyone been more consistent? His figures in the last five matches:
    • 1/19
    • 1/23
    • 1/23
    • 1/23
    • 1/22

Amazing scenes and celebrations by the Namibian fans.

  • After the 2019 heartbreak, Scotland has been one of the stories of the tournament. However a tough loss against Afghanistan and another loss now against a team they would have wanted a win means their journey has hit a wall..

Afghanistan Vs Scotland – T20 World Cup 2021 Match #17 Quick Review! The Most Comprehensive T20 World Cup Victory Ever?

Afghanistan Vs Scotland Quick Review — Openers, Gurbaz, Najibullah set up huge total after which the Mujeeb-Rashid show close things off.

Afghanistan won by a mammoth 130 runs. For comparison, West Indies have been bundled out for 55 and Australia & South Africa reached 120 the other day.

Reality check for Scotland.

Match Details, Scorecard, & Video Highlights

Scorecard: Afghanistan Vs Scotland Video Highlights

Toss: Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bat first.

Venue: Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah, UAE

Umpires: Kumar Dharmasena & Paul Wilson

What Actually Happened

  • Winner: Afghanistan won by 130 runs
  • Scores: Afghanistan 190/4Scotland 60/10
  • Player of the Match: Mujeeb Ur Rahman 5/20
  • Best Figures
    • Safyaan Sharif (4-0-33-2), Mark Watt (4-0-23-1)
    • Mujeeb Ur Rahman (4-0-20-5), Rashid Khan (2.2.-0-9-4)
  • Most Runs
    • Najibullah Zadran 59 (34), Rahmanullah Gurbaz 46 (37), Hazratullah Zazai 44 (30), Mohammad Shahzad 22 (15)
    • George Munsey 25 (18)

Moments of The Day: All Round Afghan Performance Should Send Warning Across Group 2

  • Mohammad Shahzad-Hazratullah Zazai form an interesting partnership. When they fail, the dismissals might look silly and they may go quickly. However, when it is their day, they can be totally destructive. Today was their day. A 54 (35) partnership set the tone and Afghanistan never looked back. Add a wonderful catch by Shahzad as well.
  • The momentum seemed to initially slow down with Rahmanullah Gurbaz & Najibullah Zadran, but they accelerated at even a higher pace. An 87 (52) and a couple of fours from Nabi at the end ensured Afghanistan score 190 in Sharjah.
  • Now for the man of the moment — Mujeeb Ur Rahman. For the first three overs, it looked like George Munsey was up for the challenge, reverse sweeping Nabi for a couple of hits. In comes Mujeeb — a couple of marginal LBW shouts, and 3 wickets in an over later — Scotland collapsed.
  • Before even the great Rashid Khan bowled his first ball, the game was done and dusted at 5/36. Then came Rashid Khan and with 4 wickets in 14 balls, finished things off quickly. Scotland bundled for 60. Afghanistan’s NRR up to + 6.500. Among the 9 wickets by spin, 4 bowleds & 5 LBWs. WOW!

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day: Scotland’s Middle Order Collapses As Streak Ends

Scotland were on a high after winning 3 out of 3 in the early stages, including defeating Test nation Bangladesh. Scotland had suffered years of heartbreak and no wins at a WC stage. Reaching second stage and automatically qualifying for the 2022 T20 World Cup is already a victory for them. Improvement in their progress was based on the names in the top/middle order.

Today apart from Munsey’s 25 (17) & Kyle Coetzer’s 10 (7), the scorecard read:

  • Calum MacLeod 0 (1)
  • Richie Berrington 0 (3)
  • Matthew Cross 0 (1)
  • Michael Leask 0 (5)
  • Brad Wheal 0 (1)

Scotland Vs Oman – T20 World Cup 2021 Match #10 Quick Review! Tense Finish to A Tense Group

Scotland Vs Oman Quick Review – Broken Dreams for Oman as Scotland continue to impress.

Although Scotland had won 2 in a row, their progress to the Super 12s was not guaranteed due to Bangladesh’s comeback. A loss and they could have been out, but they held their nerve.

Match Details, Scorecard, & Video Highlights

Scorecard: Scotland Vs Oman Video Highlights

Toss: Oman won the toss and chose to field first.

Venue: Al Amerat Cricket Ground, Muscat, Oman

Umpires: Ahsan Raza & Chris Gaffaney

What Actually Happened

  • Winner: Scotland won by 8 wickets
  • Scores: Oman 122/10Scotland 123/2
  • Player of the Match: Richie Berrington
  • Best Figures
    • Josh Davey – 3/25
    • Fayyaz Butt – 1/26
  • Most Runs
    • Aqib Ilyas – 37 (35)
    • Kyle Coetzer – 41 (28)

Moments of The Day: Bowlers Ensure Scottish Victory

  • Player of the match award went to yet another bowler, Josh Davey, with another 3+ wickets in an innings. Along with the emotional Safyaan Sharif, the form a good fast bowling partnership. Add spin of Mark Watt & Michael Leask, and Oman was squeezed for runs.
  • Captain comes to the party. Kyle Coetzer had come in with scores of 0 & 6. In a pressure match, he delivered, making sure the match does not go all the way to the end.
  • Watch out for Scotland’s top order. Today they all fired: Munsey (20), Coetzer (41), Cross (26*), and Berrington (31*)

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day: Oman Fail To Hold Their Nerve

  • Oman were 79-3 but could not deliver the finishing punch and ended with a paltry 122. Oman has been a wonderful host for the first leg of the tournament, and it is a shame that they had out to leave the stage with only 3 games. Hopefully they play more cricket again.

Scotland Vs Papua New Guinea – T20 World Cup 2021 Match #5 Quick Review! Berrington-Cross-Davey Take Scotland Home Despite PNG Resistance

Scotland Vs Papua New Guinea Quick Review – Richie Berrington’s excellence meant that PNG had too much to do.

Match Details, Scorecard, & Video Highlights

Scorecard: Scotland Vs Papua New Guinea Video Highlights

Toss: Scotland won the toss and chose to field first.

Venue: Al Amerat Cricket Ground, Muscat, Oman

Umpires: Kumar Dharmasena & Richard Kettleborough

What Actually Happened

  • Winner: Scotland won by 17 runs
  • Scores: Scotland 165/9PNG 148/10
  • Player of the Match: Richie Berrington
  • Best Figures
    • Kabua Morea – 4/31 (& Chad Soper 3/24)
    • Josh Davey – 4/18 (in 3.3 overs)
  • Most Runs
    • Richie Berrington – 70 (49)
    • Norman Vanua – 47 (37)

Moments of The Day: Berrington, Davey Help Scotland Make it 2 in 2

  • Richie Berrington & Matthew Cross help Scotland post a large total. When they came in, Scotland were 26-2 in 3.4 overs. When Cross departed, they had climbed up tpo 118 in 14.3 overs. Clean striking from these two. A beautiful one-handed catch by Berrington to go along with the runs.
  • Kabua Morea & Chad Soper combined figures were 55/7. This included Morea’s beautiful bowled to Coetzer and a 4-wicket over in the 20th (including a run-out). Restricted Scotland from 151-3 in 18 to just 165/9.
  • Brad Wheal-Josh Davey-Alasdair Evans are making a good medium pace trio as they each took a wicket a piece to get rid of PNG’s top order. Davey’s 3.3-0-18-4 ensured that the late assault by Norman Vanua – 47 (37), Kiplin Doriga -18 (11), and Kabua Morea – 6* (1) did not amount to a win for PNG.

Honorable Mention: Siaka’s 3 catches, Amini’s 2 catches

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day: PNG Out

The game was closer than the scores suggested. They were right in it till the last over. In the first match against Oman, Vala-Amini were taking the game away before Amini’s run-out. A good fielding unit, they would look back at their batting errors and reflect if they missed out on a World Cup win.

Scotland Vs Bangladesh – T20 World Cup 2021 Match #2 Quick Review! Chris Greaves Shines as Bangladesh Stunned In Opener

Scotland Vs Bangladesh Quick Review – Scotland recover from precarious position and win against the much-fancied Bangladesh side.

Memorable victory for the Scottish team. Much to ponder for Bangladesh.

Match Details, Scorecard, & Video Highlights

Scorecard: Scotland Vs Bangladesh Video Highlights

Toss: Bangladesh won the toss and chose to field first.

Venue: Al Amerat Cricket Ground, Muscat

Umpires: Ahsan Raza & Richard Kettleborough

What Actually Happened

  • Winner: Scotland won by 6 runs
  • Scores: Scotland 140/9Bangladesh 134/7
  • Player of the Match: Chris Greaves
  • Best Figures
    • Mahedi Hasan – 3/19
    • Brad Wheal – 3/24
  • Most Runs
    • Chris Graves – 45 (28)
    • Mushfiqur Rahim – 38 (36)

Moments of The Day: Bangladesh’s Spinners, Chris Greaves, and MacLeod’s Catching Makes It Scotland’s Day

  • Bangladesh Spinners Turn The Screws – George Munsey and Matthew Cross had taken Scotland up to 45/1 in 7 overs after the early wicket of their captain. Within the next 5 overs, Bangladesh took full control with the Mahedi Hasan-Shakib al Hasan duo. Scotland
  • Chris Greaves and Mark Watts Manifest Recovery of the Ages – Switch hits, smart running, and with proper cricketing shots, the Greaves-Watts partnership of 51 (34) gave Scotland belief. Watts departed by Greaves continued on his merry way to 45. Add Safyaan Sharif’s 8* (2) including a mighty six, Scotland got much needed momentum.
  • Calum MacLeod Catches Three Out of Thin Air – Although tight all-round bowling was the reason Bangladesh could not chase the score, equally as important was Calum MacLeod’s role as a boundary rider. Important catches of Shakib, Mahmudullah, and Nurul Hasan was the difference between a win or loss. One drop, and Bangladesh close that six run margin. However, MacLeod’s brilliance made sure that did not happen.
  • Honorable Mention: There Is Swing at the T20 World Cup! Taskin, Saifuddin, Brad Wheal, & Josh Davey all found some hints of swing

Broken Cricket Dream of the Day: The Musfiq-Shakib Partnership

  • Mushfiqur Rahim has been one of the best wicketkeeper-batters over the past decade, and Shakib Al Hasan is undoubtedly one of the greatest all-rounders of all time (and now the highest wicket taker in T20Is). However, today’s loss might be attributed to their slow partnership – 47 (46) recovery was done, but could not carry on. 38 (36) & a painful 20 (28) does not do justice to their talents and experience.
